Introducing The High Evolutionary

I can't say I've been a massive fan of James Gunns Guardians of The Galaxy films, I mean they've been OK and in my own opinion they've been mildly entertaining, primarily because they've never really been about what I would call the real Guardians from the Marvel Comics, but I've mentioned this many times before.

I've never been interested in 'Star Lord', I've just never really found him very interesting as a 'hero' and to me he's always and I mean 'always' been a 'B' if not 'D' character... which I suppose is what James Gunn has always been interested in... taking comic characters that never really warmed to the main stream comics readers and trying to make them more important than they really are.

As much as I quite like Dave Bautista's rendition of Drax, once again, to me this is a completely different character than 'Drax The Destroyer' from the world of comics. Give me the proper comics version from the pages of the comics and I would be far more interested.

If James Gunn had created all brand new characters, ie exactly as they are but with different names, then I would probably have been far more interested in the films.

I suppose it's because I'm from a time where I can remember the real 'Drax The Destroyer' from Marvel Comics and thinking about it... not only the real 'Drax' but also the real 'Captain Marvel! But I suppose that's the same for many of the MCU characters where they've either completely changed them or severely dumbed them down to hardly represent who they once were.

Of all the Guardians in the MCU, I would probably say Rocket Raccoon has been my favourite character, again he maybe not the same as in the comics, but this is one character I think has actually changed for the best and James Gunn probably worked on the premise that "use a furry character in your film and you can't go wrong". If I'm right then he made the best decision possible as I reckon the majority of the fans of these films really want to see him rather than any of the other characters and guess what, I must have been very close to being right as seeing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 makes me realise that the films have all been about Rocket rather than 'Star Lord', which to be honest, I'm OK with.... a bit like when everyone finally realised that the original Star Wars films were actually Vaders story all along!

The other characters story I've enjoyed watching is that of Nebula, played by the wonderful Karen Gillan. She's been awesome in every one of the films including the Avengers appearances. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching her rise from evil and becoming the person she is now in the MCU. Her acting at the beginning of Endgame with Robert Downey aka, Tony Stark is just brilliant, probably one of my most favourite scenes of all in the MCU!

The rest of the Guardians including Gamora I just have no interest in, I just find them boring! Shock, Gasp, horror  I hear you cry!!!!!

But back to the actual Movie... I thought the first part, ie the part that is supposed to grab you when you start to watch a film and make you want to really want to watch the rest of the film was complete and utter CRAP! I was sooooooooooooooo bored and was up and down trying to find something to do, like make a drink or look on my phone at the latest news going on in the world, in the end I was getting really annoyed thinking "What the HELL is this CRAP!" it's so friggin' boring and crap!

It seemed to me that all James Gunn wanted to do was put in as many colours on the screen as possible to try and shock the viewer. I actually can't remember much from the first third of the film except for, well... colours.... was James Gunn trying to make you think you were reading a comic? I think I can sum up everything by just asking, why the HELL is Nathan Fillion dressed like an orange version of 'The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man'?

Ridiculous! I suppose James Gunn thinks it's hilarious! Is this what the DC fans have to look forward to now that he's in charge over there?

The next part, let's call it the middle of the film, started to gain my interest, especially when 'The High Evolutionary' makes an appearance, played by the amazing Chukwudi Iwuji. Crikey!... Marvel... you really need to make sure he comes back exactly as he was in this film if not worse... Chukwudi Iwuji has made The High Evolutionary one of the most horrible and hateful villains to ever appear in the MCU, he's fantastic! OK it's a shame that his outfit was changed to purple rather than red, but hey Mr Gunn, I'll give you that one as you happen to have picked the best actor to bring this vile villain to life!

As you may have gathered as soon as the search for Rocket started I started to find film interesting, although I will say some of the scenes of experimentation got a little too 'close to the bone', but it's probably these scenes that made me absolutely hate the High Evolutionary so much, so in that sense they had to be there.

The last part of the film was OK, it kind of held my interest, but again it was pretty much... MCU by numbers. I find it hilarious that James Gunn has once again destroyed yet another great Marvel Character, that of Adam Warlock. He's basically a child, which yes I get that in this timeline he's basically a child as he's not long been born, but seriously one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe and he has to be shown to basically be an impetuous child!

Again I really don't like the humour of James Gunn, I find him to be just one big child and it's for this reason I'm not really a big fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy films.

I believe this film was saved by Chukwudi Iwuji and the awesome way he depicted 'The High Evolutionary' and the fact that the film was all about saving Rocket... if it wasn't for these two points I think the film would have 'bombed'!

But hey, this is just my own personal opinion!
