Is Captain America returning?

Chris Evans can return to the MCU!

I couldn't have been more disappointed when Chris Evans hung up his shield and bowed out at the end of Avengers Endgame. In my mind that's when the MCU really came to an end. What we have now pales into insignificance compared to when we had Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Falcon, Hulk and Hawkeye on screen. Don't get me wrong all good things have to come to an end and of course these actors were not going to be able to play these legends on screen for ever, but I always thought there was more to the story of Steve Rogers and how he bowed out of the MCU. His story wasn't to be killed off like Tony Stark's Iron Man, NO! Instead the last we see of him is as an aged man after going back in time and living his life with Peggy Carter.

Seeing as how Cap wasn't completely killed and after watching the closing scenes of Steve and Peggy together I've always thought that if Marvel wanted to, they could easily bring Cap back... maybe not in the current timeline, although seeing as how they have now brought time travel in to the MCU I'm sure they could also easily bring him back to the present day... one way or another.

I personally believe all the signs have been there right from the the beginning in 'Captain America The First Avenger' and now with the release of the new Black Panther film, 'Wakonda Forever' and the introduction of Namor, I think we're even closer to seeing the return of Captain America.

So, how could Captain America return?

What if Chris Evans wanted to give up the character but Marvel didn't want him to leave, so between them they came up with a plan or an arrangement that Chris could take a break from the MCU allowing him to go off and do other acting jobs such as the superb 'Defending Jacob' for Apple TV or 'KniveOut' or indeed playing the villain in the Grey Man on Netflix and anything else he wanted to do, all with the intention that when he was ready he could return to the MCU and once again take up the mantel of Captain America.

At the time of this agreement I'm wondering if Marvel might have made plans to make a film to tell the story of how Cap lived out his life with Peggy Carter and if I'm on the right track I reckon that story would be of Captain America working with other heroes of the time. Just think about it for a second... he's worked with the Avengers, so he's already used to working with a team. He's also had access to all the information that the Avengers held in their computer databases. Surely it wouldn't be too much 'stretch of the imagination' for Cap to have seen information of people who had special powers back in the time he now finds himself in and to search them out and form his own team and guess what... there is a team of heroes that existed in the 40's that Marvel had a run of comics for starting in 1975 called... The INVADERS!

Marvel have been dropping bread crumbs to the formation of the INVADERS right from when Steve Rogers and Bucky Barns pay a visit to the 'Stark Expo' show in the scene from the 'First Avenger' and here we are given a very small glimpse of a human figure dressed in red, standing inside a clear tube labeled 'The Synthetic Man'!

The 'Synthetic Man' is no other than Jim Hammond, the original android Human Torch from the INVADERS. I'm guessing the Avengers database would most likely have included information on the first android, especially considering the Avengers had a run in with another android in their time and lets face it, where did Tony Stark get the information from for building the Iron Man suit. If his father had maybe built the original android Human Torch, it doesn't take much to think that he used that information from his fathers records to help construct the Iron Man suit!

Depending on the year Steve Rogers has returned to he could easily reconnect with Bucky Barnes, providing it's before his fall from the train and then track down Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch. So that would be Captain America, his side kick Bucky (Bucky Barnes) and the Human Torch. That would be three of the members from the Invaders. The forth would be Namor, the Sub-Mariner who we've just been introduced to in 'Wakonda Forever'.... but how can he be part of the team I hear you cry? Well, there is a comic arc that was published in 2019 that saw the original members of the Invaders, Captain Steve Rogers, the Winter Soldier, and the original Human Torch reunite to stop another original member, Namor the Sub-Mariner who had become a global threat and mentally unstable. In this series Namor had had his memory erased and had forgotten his adventures from World War II. What if Namor in 'Wakonda Forever' is the Namor, who'd had his memory erased of his past adventures with Captain America!

In the Marvel Universe it wouldn't take much to rewrite a few details to put everything together and retell the story of Captain America from the 40's as a member of the INVADERS. The only member missing would be Thomas Raymond, the Torch's sidekick Toro and considering Marvel have already portrayed a Human Torch a few times in all three of the Fantastic Four films, it wouldn't take much to bring another Human Torch to life on the big screen.

Oh, I'm also forgetting one other little bread crumb that Marvel also dropped in 'Captain America the First Avenger' and that's the mention of James Montgomery Falsworth who was part of the Howling Commandos. Well, he just happens to be another member of the INVADERS. The original Union Jack, who joins the team a few issues later, number 8 I believe as I do own the whole run of 40 odd issues and provides the INVADERS with a base of operations in England.

Depending on which version of the INVADERS Marvel wanted to use, they could either use the original line up... Captain America, Bucky, the original Human Torch, his sidekick Toro and Namor, the Sub-Mariner or go with a later version that includes Union Jack and last but not least, Union Jacks sister, 'Spitfire'.

Either way I hope I'm right and Chris Evans will return and it'll be to tell the story of the INVADERS and if he'll return for even more, then I'm pretty sure MARVEL can also bring him back from 'The Moon' and make him younger again just like MARVEL did in the comics!
