Hawkman has to be the THE most aggressive hero in the DC world and by far one of the most awesome looking characters. With huge hawk wings and a body that looks like 'Conan The Barbarian' a temper that matches the Hulk and to top it off he swings a huge lethal mace. Can you just imagine the damage this barbaric, cruel and deadly instrument of torture can do... it has spikes!

When it was rumoured that at long last we were going to see Hawkman on the big screen I think I was more excited than I have been for most characters and dare I say it, more excited than seeing yet another iteration of BATAMN.

I did fear that we would probably have yet another toned down version like the Hawkman we got to see on the CW. Played by Falk Hentschel, which was a shame because I did think he had potential but again he could only work with what he was given and I'm talking costume and script.

His costume was sooooooo watered down and bland, I would go as far as to say the complete opposite of what Hawkman should be, not to mention he didn't even have his wings half the time, which I'm guessing was down to how much it would have cost to show the character with his wings all the time. So the CW came up with the cheap idea that he only had them in flight. Same for Hawkgirl.... if you can't show a character as he or she was originally designed or written, then don't show them at all!

Oh how bad was that version.

Some years ago back on a little known TV series called Smallville we also had Hawkman make an appearance played by Michael Shanks and I think his portrayal of Hawkman was nothing short of amazing. He had that gruff personality...but was also quite comical in his curtness and 'out-of-time' feel of reality. Unfortunately he also had armour, like a chest plate but all in all he looked much more like the Hawkman from the comics and he had feathered wings, unfortunately again due to costs the wings were pretty bad, but he had the anger and not to mention the mace.

And then we come to Hawkman from Black Adam... why oh why is he more red than green and why is he wearing armour on his top half?

Hawkman has green leggings NOT RED! He doesn't have armour because he doesn't believe he needs it, well, unless he goes all savage!

Maybe, just maybe he's in red because he's not the Hawkman we know yet, it's a Thanagarian police uniform. But if the two characters Dr. Fate and Hawkman are from the original JSA as one is supernatural and one reincarnates then surely he's already Hawkman. The question is will he be Katar Hol... or Carter Hall, will he be the reincarnation of Prince Khufu of Egypt? I don't know, we'll have to wait and see how his origin plays out.

Either way I'm not very impressed with the Hawkman we've been shown. Don't get me wrong I think the actor who's playing him, Aldis Hodge is perfect and he sure looks the part, but as he's clearly been 'working out' and we've seen what he looks like without his shirt on and he's 'built like a superhero, give him the proper Hawkman costume.

And for the love of God, why are his wings metal, he's not Archangel from the X-Men, he's Hawkman.... just give us proper hawk wings, it's not that difficult with today's CGI techniques.... AND WHERE IS HIS MACE?

Hawkmans mace is as important to the character of Hawkman as Mjölnir is to Thor! Have these people not read a Hawkman comic?

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself as it's only a sneak peak we've had so far and DC wouldn't want to give everything away just yet... where would the fun in that be!
