Dawn of Justice: A personal vendetta

I really don't care what anyone says about this movie, I thought it was superb and certainly the best interpretation of BATMAN on the big screen to date!

I enjoyed the Theatrical edition, the version that was released in the cinema however, after watching the Ultimate Edition which included the parts taken out by WB the film took on a completely different vibe… filling in all the missing pieces that people who gave the film bad reviews had major problems with.

Since owning the 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition)’ I’ve never again watched the ‘incomplete Theatrical version’ so I've substituted my original review with my review for the ‘Ultimate Edition or what I call the ’TRUE Version!'

The cast were awesome in their roles, Ben Affleck as Batman my favorite Batman of all time and in my personal opinion the only person so far to have truly captured the character of Batman and Bruce Wayne as he is from the pages of the comics. That one scene in the warehouse where Batman takes down a group of armed men is just breath taking! Obviously it’s not Ben himself, but the choreography is just fantastic and as a Batman fan from back in the day when I was buying comics at 6p each so I think I know what I’m talking about….. that scene will never be beaten!

There is one scene at the end of the sequence where Batman pulls a knife out of his shoulder and approaches the last man and he’s literally towering over the guy who’s face looks like he’s just seen the Devil himself….. Batman striking fear into villains!  Perfection!

Henry Cavill once again puts on the cape as Superman playing the character with all the grace and stoicism of a perfect SUPERMAN. Christopher Reeves was always my Superman, but in my eyes Henry Cavill has stepped up to the mark and gracefully taken the crown.

He plays the character with such charm and gracefulness and fluidity of movement that no other actor has yet shown. Every other actor after Christopher Reeves has tried to emulate what he did, but never quite made the role their own. In my opinion Henry Cavill has done exactly this… keeping to the Superman from the comics, but made the character his own. We’re not there just yet, but I reckon once we’ve got to near the end of Zack Snyders arc of films, he’ll be the Superman we all know and love!

One of the best parts of watching this film is that for the very first time in history we finally have the DC trinity in live action on the big screen. We all bear witness to seeing Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman actually fighting alongside each other.

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman is hands down the best Wonder Woman ever although there really hasn’t been that many…. however Lynda Carter will always hold a special place in my heart just like Christopher Reeves.

Of all the modern actors who’ve portrayed Lois Lane on the big screen and TV since Margot Kidder,  I think Amy Adams as Lois Lane has given her a far more ‘real’ aspect to the character mirroring Henry Caveill’s approach to Clark Kent and I think they play a great couple together.

Diane Lane is wonderful as Martha Kent and I really like the great Mother and Son aspect she gives off towards Henry Cavil as her son. Diane Lane has one heck of an awesome line in the warehouse rescue scene when Batman tells her he’s a friend of her son’s and she replys "I gathered… the cape!”…. absolutely brilliant!

Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth is just bloody brilliant! Like Ben Affleck IS the definitive Batman, Mr Irons IS the definitive Alfred! The almost ‘bickering’ between Bruce and Alfred is just hilarious and it's awesome to finally see an Alfred that gets his hands dirty fixing things.

Laurence Fishburne as Perry White is a great acting choice, love the mild and sarcastic humour...  "Coach Lois, no extra leg room! Economy plus… COACH!

Harry Lennix as General Swanwick, very cool and then we come to Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor! Hmmmm, not exactly the best Lex Luthor, but I suppose this is the beginning of his story just like it is for Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.

The mixture of Zack Snyders cinematography and Chris Terrio and David Goye writing is second to none, well… at least in my opinion and using the opening credits for the film was a great idea to gently remind the audience of Batmans origin.

All the relevant backstories handled OK and I’m sure they will all be expanded on in future films. Bruce's Knightmare vision was interesting and I’m really looking forward to more details and information on this…. for the comic fans I’m sure we’ve all noticed the Omega symbol in the sands! Fight scenes were all really impressive, like with fight between Batman and Superman and the final battle with Doomsday and as far as I could see they all had ample development.

Doomsday was pretty good in the movie maybe not to everyones taste and I’m sure there are many people who will look upon the Doomsday arc as extremely rushed, but when you think about it do we really want to stretch out the Doomsday Saga to one whole film? Maybe for the Comic Nerds, yes…. but for the general movie goer!

Seeing Batman at the end of the film threatening Lex Luthor in prison and putting the fear of God in to him was superb… again, this is the Batman I want to see!

Check out the Trailer below.

Considering the film was called ‘Batman V Superman’ it would have been great to have seen a longer fight scene between the two power houses, but the ‘warehouse’ scene kind'a made up for that little gripe and kind of proved to the audience what this Batman is truly capable of. I think the whole film was truely epic in every way and there’s just so much that actually happens in the film that it’s really difficult to write a review without missing something… but what I will say is the film perfectly sets up what’s coming in the future…. after all, the film IS subtitled ‘Dawn of Justice’

But hey…. this is just my own personal opinion!

I will be posting a much more in-depth review in the future, highlighting as many points of interest as possible.
